Map the business rules and users

Define store type, product variants, pricing and promotions, stock locations, shipping, returns, and user roles first. Ask Claude to map separate workflows for administrators, customers, and warehouse staff. This scope helps determine whether a hosted platform, custom software, or a hybrid approach fits the business.

Design the storefront and panel in parts

Claude can draft copy, interface prototypes, and code for catalog, search, cart, order status, and reporting screens. Specify the APIs and failure cases for payment, ERP, accounting, shipping, and invoicing integrations. Keep real payment credentials and customer records out of development and test environments.

Protect correctness at launch

Authorization, inventory consistency, verified payment notifications, personal-data retention, backups, and audit logs are core requirements. Validate price, tax, and totals on the server, and test orders, cancellations, and refunds. Have a developer review generated code and security-test the system before it handles live transactions.

Test an end-to-end order flow

Follow product selection, payment, inventory updates, shipping notice, cancellation, and refund from start to finish in a test environment. Define the customer message and administrator log for each failure. Verify integration contracts against the provider’s documentation rather than relying on a generated draft.

Example prompt

Create test cases for successful payment, failed payment, out-of-stock, and refund. For each step, list system state, customer message, and audit record.
